It takes some practice, patience and skills in sewing to be good at it but is definitely worth the hard work. This provides some technique that will the beginners to get started.



For starters, the most important component of the whole process is selecting the best quality of ribbon you are going to use. It should be made of strong materials to make your work of art lasts and never choose anything cheap. The highly suggested material is usually pure silk but there are other available for your preference such as satin and rayon. Before shopping for the material you must have a pattern to have an idea what color hue you will choose. Buy at least three to five meters on each color.



The next thing to consider is to choose for the appropriate embroidery thread. You must consider the design and the color of what you have chosen to match it well. The quality plays an important in here as well it must be strong enough to hold the ribbon down.



Moreover, it is vital that you select the appropriate needles that go along with the thread and design that you have. If the material you are stitching is made of tightly woven fabrics then the chenille is best for this job for its sharp point and large eye. However, if you are stitching a sweater that has loose woven type of fabric then the needle you should use tapestry.



When you start working always choose a short ribbon length for every session. Ribbons are known to fray easily, thus the shorter the length the better it is to avoid it from passing through the fabric more often. The recommended length is thirty centimeters or twelve inches.



To avoid leaving bumps under your work of art it is advisable to leave a small tail at the end of a ribbon of about one centimeter or three eight of an inch. It must be positioned at the back of your work to obstruct not the view. At the end of your craft you can stitch of all these tails by a thin embroidery thread from one end to another.



Keep in mind not to hold down these threads tightly. Loosen up the tension when you started knitting them to keep these ribbons from fraying. This keep the contour of every stitches and avoid it from pulling out of shape.



Twisting could happen on the ribbons while you are working. You must prevent this from happening by making the stitch on the same fabric. You hold all those stitches in place by placing your thumb and then remove the ribbon at the same time.



There you go you now have a pretty silk ribbon embroidery in possession. Just make sure you have clean hands when you are working with the embroidery so always wipe those sweaty hands on a towel regularly. Such craft proved to have many uses but popularly known in decorative pillows, heirloom, brooch, book cover and many more. Creativity is the only limit to what it is capable of.
