The Strength To Consider In An Obstacle Course Race

The Strength To Consider In An Obstacle Course Race

By Robbie Sutter

You’re steadily approaching your first obstacle course race and you are ready to take it to those who you are competing against. You have been training for quite some time and you believe that you have a strong upside going into it. That being said, is it possible that there are tips you probably didn’t think about before? Prior to getting deep into this type of competition, here are a couple of ways in which you can maintain a substantial amount of strength in the race.

If you’re working within an obstacle course race or any other race for that matter, I would recommend that you do not sprint the first chance that you get. Yes, a head start may seem attractive but the fact is that you will tire yourself out before you know it. You want to retain energy and this is an ideal way for such energy to become wasted. Keep this element at a substantial level and you’ll benefit from events along the lines of Spartan Race.

You may want to look at how you position your hands as you’re running. While you may think of this as a smaller tip, you may be surprised by how much more difficulty you have breaking off into a run if your hands are tightened. If you ball them up into fists, this means your muscles are working in this fashion when they could be utilized for the sake of a run. Make sure your hands are more relaxed so that all of the anatomical focus can be on the run.

Determination is going to be seen in a race of this caliber and your focus is going to be required. This means that you should not become distracted by anything, making sure that your focus is on the track. Typically these types of competitions are going to have audience but do not let their cheers or cries take your attention away from the goal. As long as your mind remains centered, you should be fine as the progress you will soon make is concerned.

You may be surprised to see that keeping your strength in an obstacle course race actually doesn’t take that much work when you think about it. These steps are surprisingly simple and yet it is almost as if they have been left out of mind. This should not be the case at all, especially when steps like these exist. There are others to take into account as well, so do not think that you won’t benefit from a bit of research done on your own time.
