Finding Suitable Foam For Cushions Manufacturing

Finding Suitable Foam For Cushions Manufacturing

By Kenneth Wesley

Some furniture items, as well as their enhancers, are built to provide comfort for everyone who utilizes them. The comfort element in these furniture pieces and aids is created by a particular type of material that is designed specifically for that purpose. Therefore, the same material used in items such as chairs, sofas, and mattresses, is the same foam for cushions manufacture.

A cushion may be manufactured for dressing up or decorating seats such as sofas, or it may be built to protect the back of a person from a hard surface. There is even a cushion designed exclusively for use on boats. As the purposes for cushions are many and varied, so are the designs and shapes that can be made available to suit the desires of customers.

Numerous shapes, such as a wedge, square, circle, triangle, and cylinder, as well as T and L letters, are possible for designs. Although the more common shapes are squares or circles, uniquely shaped designs may be made, from the foams, for matching the seats on boats. Precise measurements, complete with detailed instructions, are usually requested of the customers who are submitting their diagrams for the manufacture of cushions.

The thickness or thinness of foam depends on the purpose for which its end product would be used. This is so since softer furnishings result from thinner materials being utilized. Consequently, thinner foam produces a cuddly cushion, while the thicker variety provides good support.

It appears, also, that there are different types of foams, and each variety has its unique properties. For example, foams may consist of open cells or closed cells, and these have implications for their end products. Foams that have closed cells are more bouncy or springy, and resistant to liquid penetration, while open cell foams are softer and more pliable.

A comparison of these two types of foams, with each other, seems to reveal advantages that are unique to each. For example, it would seem that there is more advantage to using foams that possess open cells rather than those having closed ones. This is demonstrated by the open cell properties of breathability, conformability, and softness found in those foams.

Nevertheless, if the desire is to produce a cushion that is light in weight, with the ability to be washed, then foam with closed cells is preferable. This is so, since those are the main advantages of those types of foams. Notwithstanding, some manufacturers seem to specialize in foams with open cells, as these appear to have an added advantage of durability. This implies that cushions produced with these types of foams would have a longer span of usage.

When it comes to finding suitable foam for cushions, there are a number of things which can be considered. A cushion may be used for different purposes, and there are foams that are suitable to those needs. Different properties are in different types of foams, and these properties are responsible for the varieties possible in those furniture aids that are available in numerous shapes, sizes, and qualities.
