All About The Saluki Puppies

By Lila Berger

Saluki puppies have long, softer coat and are fine feathered pets. They are among the oldest breeds with their roots during ancient times. They are treated as talented desert animals that live with the tribal people. They are to help the people hunt under dry and hot weather conditions.

These animals are given high regards in Egypt. They were called as the royal dog of Egypt and their remains were even taken in tombs. Some Arabic nations believe that they are among those clean animals that can enter their homes which are mostly tents.

The breed was first introduced in Europe and finally made it to the shores of England. They mostly have a stunning appearance. Graceful, striking and delicate as people have described. Its appearance signifies its independent and tough temperament to do the job they are supposed to. A pure breed has long and narrow head with dark eyes.

It has profound ribcage to accommodate their lungs and ribs with long and really slender legs. All body parts are proportioned to display their most eminent grace and poise. They have the ability to withstand long distances. They are traditionally shy to those who are not used to deal with them.

However, they are truly gentle, sensitive and friendly and most of all intelligent. As the owner, you need to be patient during training to avoid them getting bored and distracted. You must not threaten the dogs with too loud screams and other unpleasing threats. You must encourage them not to be a shy brat.

The Salukis are healthy and strong animals that can be alive until fourteen years of age. There are a number of hereditary diseases that can greatly affect their health. The most common of all is the cancer like liver cancer. They need daily exercise as they are really active and the best of all, a caring family.

These animals do not mostly bark, they do only when something is not good or when there is a strange thing or person. Some of them do bark without any reason as perhaps they just really love to do it. They must be exercised because they can directly climb a fence. You must exercise them to avoid getting any trouble on your backyard.

Saluki is a clean dog with little or no odor with reduced peeling because they have short coat. They must not be treated as outside pets because they will not tend to do well in that situation. They are not likely to drool except when thinking of food. They are easy to house train as they are indoor animals. As their master, you must train them not to knock down the furniture.

Some Saluki puppies can really be choosy in terms of food but they are fast in finishing their meals. Most of them will eat less than other breeds and drink less as well. They have the slightest among of fat among all other breeds. When sterilized, they may gain more weight and the their coat will become fuzzy. Due to lack of fat, they are more sensitive to anesthetic agents. This is true to most of them if not all.
