All About The Art Of Landscape Design

All About The Art Of Landscape Design

By Eliza Mendoza

For many years already, landscape design is an old art form that has evolved over time as the its popularity increased. This all started sometime during the year of 1700 wherein many rich families had a big plot of land around their houses that was vacant. Since they wanted their houses to be grand, they hired some artists to help design that plot of land and make it look beautiful.

Now the main things that the architects in this field would be doing would be making use of the things in the area and arrange them to make the entire area look beautiful. By adding some trees, flowers, lamps, and other things, one could turn a dull area into something splendid. Some would even put a fountain or a swimming pool in there.

It was only during the year of 1800 that the demand for landscape architects increased because of the increase in number of public parks. The government wanted these architects to make these public parks look nice because of the visitors. That is why eventually, this type of career line became rather popular among the creative people.

Nowadays, being a landscaping designer is actually a very profitable job for those who are creative and know how to play around with their artistic ideas. Good landscape designs are not only limited now to the wealthy individuals or the government officials anymore. As long as one has a garden or a yard, he may actually give it a nice look.

In fact, these days, becoming a landscape designer is very profitable if one is good at what he does because the demand is actually very big. Also, if one is a designer, he may dictate his own price depending on the scope of the project. One may make it as simple as he wants or as beautiful and fancy as he wants also depending on the wants of the customer.

Having balance is an extremely important principle in modern landscape architecture. It is in fact one of the most basic of all principles which states that in entirety, the whole design has to be balanced. This means that the right and left must be in sync with each other and the center has to be filled with something small that would actually balance out the two sides.

Color and texture of each of the decorations are extremely important because there has to be balance of both in the entire area. The color has to be in sync with the entire picture and there should not be any contrasts. Of course this is the same with the texture of decorations that would actually be used.

The last of main principles of landscape design would be continuity or simply seeing everything as a whole. When working on the main design, one cannot just take a look at one section then go on to work on the next one. He has to already know what the finished product will look like as a whole before he starts.
