How To Be Successful With Organic Gardening

How To Be Successful With Organic Gardening

By Johnathan Black

Organic gardening has so many possibilities as to what you can use, do, and how you can apply it to your own personal organic garden. Why not take advantage of having a unique garden and create your own organic gardening techniques that work for you and only you? This article can help you start.

Pay attention to the compatibility of your plants. You can plant tall plants, such as tomatoes, and use them to shade such sun-sensitive plants as lettuce and spinach. These combinations can reduce the amount of fertile space your garden requires while also increasing the yield of all the types of plants you have.

To maximize your enjoyment out of your garden plant a variety of plants. The same old will get full and boring and you may out of boredom end up neglecting your garden. By planting a variety you will ensure that you remain interested and as a bonus it will be far prettier.

When removing and replanting perennials, it is important to replenish the soil as well. If you remove a large number of perennials, and then replant them without adding additional compost and soil, the bed will be lower, reducing drainage and air circulation. Also, the compost will replace nutrients that have been used up by previous growing seasons.

If you have planted vegetables within your garden, make sure that they are getting at least six hours of sunlight each day. Pretty much any vegetable you plant in your garden requires sunshine for this duration. It allows them to grow in the proper manner and also much faster. This is true of some flowers.

Create a certain mood for your garden. Just as with interior design, one of the most exciting aspects of garden design is using color to create a mood or feeling. Use soft blues and purples for a cool and soothing atmosphere, yellows for cheerfulness, and reds and oranges to create excitement. If you are uncomfortable when deciding on colors, choose plants with grey-green or silvery foliage to mix in with your flowers. They will act as a ‘buffer’ between incompatible colors and link different color schemes.

Isn’t creating your own personal organic gardening techniques a lot of fun? As you have seen in this article, there are a lot of ways this can be done and no two techniques will yield the same results. There are also lots of customizable options that can work with your organic garden and budget.
