Equestrian sports have never been so popular. Each year more and more people join the ranks of riders. Some are only interested in taking a peaceful trail ride on weekends, whilst others are very determined competitors who are out at a show every weekend. However much time someone spends at the barn they will need at least some basic horse riding products to keep them safe and comfortable.

Anyone who is around horses should have safety as their top priority. Most equines are very gentle animals, yet if they are startled they can unintentionally injure people. Even the most experienced of riders will take a fall sometimes. Having all the right equipment can help to keep people safe and minimize the damage in the event of an accident.

Many barns and riding establishments provide helmets for their clients. It is not always a good idea to use them simply because the client does not know if they have been involved in an accident or collision. Riding helmets can have hairline cracks that compromise their strength. Having a helmet of their own is the best and safest idea.

All riders, especially youngsters should be taught to wear their helmet at all times when they are around the horses. This means when they are leading, grooming or tacking up their mount. Horses are typically very gentle and seem to enjoy interaction with people. However, if they are scared or startled they can jump quickly or even kick out. This is an instinctive action done to protect themselves but if a person is in the way they can be injured. Helmets have saved many lives and minimized a lot of injuries.

Riding pants come in a variety of forms. The traditional English riders wear jodhpurs or breeches. These are tight fitting but comfortable pants that usually have suede knee patches for extra grip. Today they are usually made of a polyester and cotton blend which makes them stretch to fit every shape and size of rider. They are also very easy to care for and can be machine washed and tumble dried. However it is always important to read the care label of every item before laundering it.

Western riders are usually more casually attired. They typically wear jeans and comfortable shirts. In recent years some really nice riding shirts have hit the market. They are much like a stylish polo shirt and are available in some really great colors for the ladies. Most men like to stick with the plain blue or green. The shirts are affordable and easy to wash. Some are now being made with stain guard to keep them looking good for longer.

Boots are also considered an essential item for riders. A well made boot with a good heel will prevent the foot from slipping through the stirrup. Most boots are made from black or brown leather and should be polished regularly to keep them in shape.

Horse riding products are available to purchase from local retail stores or from big on line companies. Shoppers should take their time to really look at all the options to find something that meets their needs and is within their price range.
