The Best Pheasant Hunting Lodges

The Best Pheasant Hunting Lodges

By Serena Price

The pheasant hunting lodges in the Midwestern states offer many amenities as well as a beautiful lodge to spend your free time in. The rooms and common areas are very well appointed when it comes to decor and a friendly home like atmosphere. The entire experience is designed to make you want to return soon.

Your choice may be made by word of mouth or by what you learn online. Speaking to the owner of the ranch you are interested in can answer many of your questions and ultimately help you make that decision. There are a lot of things to take into consideration before booking your hunt.

To accomplish this they set up what they call food plots for the pheasants. Here they supply feed for the wild birds and cover for them to hide in. Most of the properties are large enough to offer several different types of terrain for hunters. There are fields where row crops have been raised and harvested as well as bogs, creek beds and thistle hides.

Many of these ranches are generational in their operation. Some of the families homesteaded their ranches in the eighteen hundreds and they have passed the land down to family since that time. The land is still used for crops and cattle as well as for sport hunting groups in the fall. Some of the families accommodate deer hunts, water fowl and what they call predator hunts for coyotes.

When you have finished your hunt for the day you can look forward to an evening of pleasant company with the other guests. The dinner that is served is usually country fare and there will be enough that if you leave the table hungry it is not the cooks fault. While you relax and enjoy dinner the staff will be cleaning your catch and preparing them for transport at the end of your stay.

Most ranches offer clay target shooting prior to the hunt to give pointers and get you ready for the hunt. They will also provide lessons for those who have never hunted game birds before. Your hosts will not supply you with the state licenses enabling you to hunt you must get those for yourself. They can be obtained online by contacting the state fish and game department. You must also bring your own guns and ammunition when you book a hunt.

If you are looking for a less remote feeling there is a hunter’s package offered by a casino located on a Native American reservation. Here you have ample space to hunt and the benefits of a casino for meals and entertainment. The casino provides everything that you would find at a lodge as far as amenities except perhaps the skeet shooting in the mornings.

What ever your choice of pheasant hunting lodges turns out to be you can be fairly certain that you will be treated with the utmost respect and care by family members who want you to return next year. The rooms, service and food is only part of the experience of you might expect. The owners and their families are willing to bend over backwards to accommodate you.
